Physiotherapist, Health Coach and Content Producer
Having always lived a relatively active lifestyle, the positive benefits that come with physical activity and how this translates to other aspects of one’s life, has always been somewhat apparent to me.
However, in working within the fitness industry for almost a decade now I have seen how often there is a lack of awareness and connection between our physical, mental, intellectual and emotional wellbeing, which I feel truly limits the potential of the application of one’s training.
In my years of study and working clinically, I’ve learned that the cornerstone underpinning most of our success, whether it be in the gym, at work or at home, is the need for structure and accountability. The need to be meticulous of what you are doing, how you are doing it, and why you are doing it. Too much, too often, too soon will likely result in an injury or burnout, yet too little, too seldom, can result in a plethora of undesirable conditions that will often present themselves later in life.
This deep knowledge and passion for holistic health is what I love to share with others to help enlighten and educate them on the connection between the physical and mental, connecting the what to the how and the why, so they can understand their body and self more, ultimately getting the most out of it in all aspects of life. I believe that it is within this sweet spot of overlap where functioning at a high level becomes the default.

Charlotte Connell
Research Scientist, Consultant and Content Producer
My name is Charlotte Connell (aka Dr Char) and I’m a Research Scientist with a passion for science communication. You will find me on Rise Optimise where we discuss science concepts that can be used to optimise your health.
I hold a PhD in Exercise Sciences where I specialised in fatigue, the brain, ergogenic aids, and exercise performance.
As a researcher I’ve had the chance to deep dive into several disciplines and see how they intersect with exercise sciences. Some of these have included visual neuroscience, behavioural science and data science. When I’m not on Rise Optimise you’ll find me working on my research at the University of Auckland.
